I have over 20 years of experience working professionally in local government in the UK, involved in strategic policy & strategy and devolution with a particular focus on placemaking, transport, climate, environment and nature policy, and have a good understanding of the public sector framework and regularly liaise and collaborate with academia and the private and voluntary sectors.
I have valuable skills, including strategy development, big picture strategic thinking, global trends and horizon scanning, innovation, spatial planning, placemaking, product development, marketing, transport & mobility, etc. I have the ability to think holistically and collaboratively through an ambition-led “vision and validate” approach informed by evidence and data. Key thing is to take a holistic, inclusive, place, and whole economy approach to the future of transport to create better places and healthier lives for everyone. I am keen to foster collaboration, engagement and a community enabling approach.
My personal interests include transport, photography, geopolitics, architecture & design, etc. I am also a transport author with this series of “Through the Window” Rail Guides. I strongly believe that, today, with the hectic pace of modern life, technology at our fingertips, and everyone all too often glued to their smartphones, we risk forgetting the simple pleasures of looking out of the window and enjoying slow travel to experience our surroundings.
These “Through the Window” Rail Guides aim to recapture something of this lost art of travel and encourage people to take time to look out of the window to see the passing places, history, culture, landscapes and natural wonders from the train. I see a train journey as linking a string of pearls and showcasing places you pass as well as the destinations you are travelling to. So I hope you enjoy my endeavours!
